Bedford’s ‘Jewel in the Crown’
With riots of colour in the spring sunshine this season’s planting is reaching its peak on Bedford’s Embankment, ahead of an exciting spring and summer of events in Bedford town centre.
Bedford Embankment has long been known as the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ of the town centre, with thousands of bulbs and bedding plants including tulips, wallflowers, pansies and forget-me-nots all in full bloom on the riverside.
Paul Pace, chief officer for Environment at Bedford Borough Council said:
“Once again, our fantastic staff within the Parks and Open Spaces Team has really done us proud with this year’s display on the Embankment.
“A great deal with hard work and planning goes into delivering these displays every year, with always something new to see and enjoy on a visit to our river.”
In mid-May, the spring planting will be removed to get the space ready for the summer display which will be planted in June.
