Council staff and volunteers supporting residents who are most in need during Lockdown
The Bedford Borough Council Community Hub delivered its 2000th food parcel to someone in need on Friday (24 April 2020).
The Community Hub has been running for over a month. It delivers food, prescriptions and support to people are most in need; those who are self-isolating in Bedford Borough who have no local support network.
As well as requests for food parcels, the Hub has delivered nearly 500 prescriptions and around 300 hygiene packs. It has also made dozens of calls made to Borough residents who may be feeling lonely at this difficult time.
Mayor Dave Hodgson said:
“The Community Hub was set up quickly at the start of this lockdown, so we could start delivering support to those people who need it most.
“We have had so many messages of thanks and appreciation, and I would like to add my voice to those- thank you to every single person working to support the vulnerable and elderly right across Bedford Borough.”
If you live in Bedford Borough and are in need of support, you can call the Hub on 01234 718101. Or you can visit www.bedford.gov.uk/covid19.
