Automated lockers are being installed at 11 Railway stations
Passengers using Bedford Train Station will soon be able to pick up, drop off and return their parcels as they hop on and off trains. This is thanks to a partnership between Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) and InPost.
New automated lockers are being installed at Bedford Station and at ten other stations across the GTR network.
GTR’s senior business development manager, Anna Kiddle, said:
“It takes less than 10 seconds to pick a parcel up, and the new lockers should really help our customers to arrange deliveries in a more flexible way.
“The company’s aim is also to be sustainable and environmentally friendly by encouraging the use of these lockers, diverting use away from single delivery drop-offs to houses.”
Rail users can return items anytime 24/7 from asos, JD, French Connection, TOMs and Schuh. Online shoppers can also collect items from a range of retailers, including boohoo, NastyGal and Holland & Barrett.
When customers order their goods, they can choose a local locker to collect their parcels from. Once the parcel has been delivered to the locker, customers are sent a QR code by SMS and email. They then scan the code at the locker to open the door.
On the Thameslink route, automated lockers are also being installed at Mill Hill Broadway and Luton Airport Parkway stations.
InPost chief executive, Jason Tavaria, said:
“We are delighted to work in partnership with Govia Thameslink Railway offering convenient and greener delivery, available 24/7 to help people get on with their daily lives without having to worry about delivery.”
