Possible parish boundary changes

Pubic consultation has opened for the second part of Central Bedfordshire Council’s (CBC) review of town and parish council arrangements.

Local authorities are required to undertake a review of local governance arrangements every 10-15 years. This is the first one since CBC was formed in 2009 and has to be completed by November 2018.

The public consultation during part 1 recommended changes to governance arrangements:

Ridgmont results

The second stage of consultation gives residents the chance to have their say on the recommendations made by the CBC General Purposes Committee.

This consultation is seeking feedback on proposed changes to all CBC parish councils. This changes can include:

  • Reduction of councillors
  • Name changes
  • Boundary changes
  • Abolition of parish wards

Cllr Richard Wenham, Executive Member for Corporate Resources and Deputy Leader of the Council, said:

“Central Bedfordshire Council is not necessarily seeking to reduce the number of parish councillors. However, examination of recent elections shows that for a number of parishes there has been difficulty in filling existing parish seats consequently the parishes concerned have been asked to consider their numbers.”

Parish council changes proposed

Proposed changes for Cranfield and Marston Vale

Below are the changes proposed for parishes within Cranfield and Marston Vale. If your parish isn’t listed, then there have been no changes recommended. You can still comment on existing arrangements within the questionnaire.

Cranfield

  • That the ward of Cranfield Wharley End be abolished
  • That the number of parish councillors on Cranfield Parish Council be reduced to 13

Houghton Conquest

Cllr Richard Wenham said:

“We are not recommending a boundary change within the parish of Houghton Conquest but rather suggesting that the parish be warded. Thus, affording the opportunity for the new housing developments to be separately represented on the parish council.”

Lidlington

  • That the number of parish councillors on Lidlington Parish Council be reduced to 7

Marston Moretaine

  • That the parish name be changed to Marston Moreteyne

Ridgmont

  • That the number of parish councillors on Ridgmont Parish Council be reduced to 7
