Priory Country Park wins award for the 18th year in a row
The Green Flag Awards Scheme, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that a green space boasts excellent environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities. 12 green spaces across Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire have been awarded a Green Flag.
Priory Country Park won the award for the 18th year in a row. While Harrold-Odell Country Park achieved scores in the highest categories, its best year yet.
Bedford Borough Mayor, Dave Hodgson, said:
“Our beautiful parks and open spaces are popular with local residents and visitors alike, and we are proud to have them recognised once again by the Green Flag Award.
“My thanks go to all the staff and volunteers who work so hard throughout the year to bring out the best in our amazing parks.”

Six Green Flags fly across Central Bedfordshire
The park’s visitor building has been the recipient of various design awards. It offers bookable meeting spaces, a dog-friendly café with both indoor and outdoor seating, children’s discovery area, and interactive interpretation about the park and other local heritage.
The park and visitor centre, which are free to visit, are part of the wider National Lottery-funded £3m Houghton Hall Park Renaissance and Renewal Project. This project provided easy-access paths and innovative natural play equipment.
Studham Common received its Green Flag award for the twelfth year running.
Councillor Ian Dalgarno, executive member for Community Services for Central Bedfordshire Council, said:
“The green flags flying across Central Bedfordshire are a testament to the efforts of both the staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.
“These awards coincide with our Love Parks Week from 24 July to 2 August, which has a range of events and activities to celebrate our wonderful parks.”
