Bedfordshire Police was called just after 1.50pm yesterday (Tuesday 2 March 2021) to a report of an incident in a shop at the Interchange Retail Park in Kempston.

Two men and a woman attempted to steal items from the Boots store, but were unsuccessful.

The woman was seen to take the hand of a young child, who was with her mother, but this is believed to have been a distraction tactic.

All three made off in the direction of Sports Direct. Bedfordshire Police said:

“We understand that incidents concerning child safety are concerning and it is only natural that parents will be worried and will want to share messaging around potential risks to their children.

“We want to reassure people that while the child concerned in this incident wasn’t harmed, we urge everyone to help us in keeping children safe by reporting any suspicious activity or concerning behaviour to us as soon as possible.”

Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact police via www.bedfordshire.police.uk/report quoting reference number 40/10484/21.
