Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and its charity, are joining Captain Sir Tom Moore’s family in encouraging the nation to celebrate his life with an event that everyone can get involved in to celebrate his generosity of spirit, the hope and joy he brought to millions, and his sense of fun.
The NHS Foundation Trust is inviting everyone to help raise funds for the its charity and take part in the Captain Tom 100 from Friday 30 April to Bank Holiday Monday 3 May 2021 to celebrate Captain Sir Tom Moore’s amazing fundraising achievements over what would have been his 101st birthday weekend.
Hospital staff walked 100 laps of the landscaped ‘Captain Sir Thomas and Pamela Moore Gardens‘ earlier today (30 April 2021) to pay tribute to the Captain and keep his remarkable legacy alive.
The ‘Captain Sir Thomas and Pamela Moore’ gardens were redeveloped and landscaped last year to commemorate the Captain’s fundraising mission of walking 100 laps of his own garden raising an incredible £38 million for the NHS.
Lena Johnson, ward manager of Pilgrim Ward said:
“I’m really pleased to have been here today to take part in the Captain Tom 100 Challenge, along with colleagues.
“He was an inspirational man who we were lucky to have cared for.
“It feels great that we can build on his legacy.
“I’d definitely encourage everyone at home to find a way to mark this event over the Bank Holiday weekend and raise money, or donate to a worthy cause, like our charity, or one which means something to you.”
Why not get involved?
All you need to do is dream up your Captain Tom 100 – an activity of your choice based around the numbers 100 – and do it anytime and anywhere from 30 April through to the 3 May. You could walk 100 steps, run 100 metres, climb 100 stairs or write a 100-word poem – it could be absolutely anything at all, inside or outside. It’s your chance to take part in your own way.
