Patients and staff can “walk with Captain Tom” in honour of his 100th birthday
To commemorate Captain Tom Moore’s fundraising mission of walking 100 laps of his garden to raise money for the NHS, Bedford Hospital will be naming new landscaped gardens after the inspirational Captain.
Plans have already been draw up to refurbish the garden area outside the main entrance on Kempston Road. The area will be transformed into a tranquil and calming environment for patients that will include resting/seating areas and sensory plants.
The plans even include a landscaped walk feature in the shape of the number 100 as an extra special tribute to Captain Tom.
Various members of staff who have looked after Captain Tom over the years at Bedford Hospital couldn’t wait to send him their praise and best wishes.
Some of these staff have recorded video messages wishing him a very happy birthday but to also thank him for the amazing fundraising for the NHS.
Simon Linnett, chair of Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust said:
“On behalf of the Hospital and the broader community we wish to record our deep gratitude to Captain Tom for the inspiration and lift he has given us and for the extraordinary sums of money he has raised for the NHS.
“We admire him, we applaud him and we wish him a very Happy Centenary Birthday from us and from all those in the future who will forever remember his remarkable achievement, Happy Birthday Captain Tom and Thank you.”
