Govia Thameslink Railway food bank pilot scheme collects over 800 meals for local charities

Donations at Bedford and Brighton stations meant that 822 meals were given to those in need, following a six-week community pilot scheme from Govia Thameslink Railway and UK charity, The Trussell Trust.
The Railway Food Collection is a partnership between Govia Thameslink Railway and local food banks. It aims to encourage the public and railway staff, to donate food and other essential items to vulnerable people in their local communities.
The pilot helped support The Black & Minority Ethnic Community Partnership (BMECP) Food Bank in Brighton & Hove and the Bedford Foodbank to increase the number of families in crisis that they can support

It is now in week five of a six-week pilot scheme for The Railway Food Collection – a partnership between Govia Thameslink and local food banks. So far, the scheme has been helping those in need in the Bedford and Brighton areas thanks to The Bedford Foodbank and The BMECP Food Bank.
Today (11 August 2020) the two joined forces to get essential items to those in need at Brighton.
The BMECP Food Bank was desperately in need of pasta and sanitary products and The Bedford Foodbank had surplus supply of both. So Bedford kindly donated 70 kilos of pasta and five boxes of sanitary products which have been transferred by train this morning via a Thameslink service.
