Care homes in Bedford ‘poised’ to allow indoor visits from March 8

A council meeting heard that care homes are already making preparations to allow one named person to meet with a loved one and hold hands as part of the easing of lockdown restrictions.
Visitors will have to pass a lateral flow test before being allowed in, to reduce the risk of passing on the coronavirus to vulnerable people.

Members of GMB Beds County Branch, along with Mick Lancaster GMB regional organiser, have been delivering Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to all staff, including GMB members working in local authority care homes across Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough Councils.
GMB members working in these care homes were concerned about the future supply of PPE. GMB Beds County Branch said that on behalf of its members it took matters into its own hands and sourced and purchased additional backup supplies of PPE.
