Bedford GP jabbers due to move to cohort 6 next week but those in cohorts 1-5 can still book their vaccine

GP jabbing teams in Bedford are ready to move on to cohort six of the nine highest COVID-19 risk groups from next week, a meeting heard.

Teams running the local vaccination sites in the borough have been vaccinating at the rate of more than 1,000 people  a day – but anyone who has missed out so far in cohorts 1-5 can still get their vaccination.

Beds, Luton, MK CCG: ‘Half of patients in hospital’ with COVID as NHS creaks under ‘extreme’ pressure

Around half of the patients in hospitals across Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes have COVID, a meeting was told.

Although the actual number of patients was not reported to the governing body of the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group (BLMK), it has put the NHS locally under ‘extreme pressure’.

£6.5million paid to support Bedford Borough businesses

Bedford Borough Council is automatically paying £6.5million to businesses that have had to close during lockdown.

These grants are to support businesses with their premises costs. They are available for businesses that are ratepayers or have other mortgage or rent costs for their business premises and are required to close.

These grants are set and funded by the Government at a national level and administered by the local council.

Advice for clinically extremely vulnerable in Tier 4 areas

Updated guidance is being issued for the clinically extremely vulnerable in areas placed into new Tier 4 restrictions from 20 December

This group of the most vulnerable is strongly advised to stay at home at all times, unless for exercise or medical appointments, and not to attend work, even if they are unable to work from home

The advice reflects that which was in place across England during November, and a similar support package will be available
