Faith settings to be advised on how to reopen safely in Bedford borough as vaccination slows
Churches, mosques and temples can expect to receive a letter from Bedford Council soon with advice on how they can safely reopen for group worship.
A meeting heard even though communal worship was not banned for this lockdown, most faith leaders agreed that they would not continue while case rates were high.

Bedford Borough Council to pay £2.7m in Business Support Grants to Borough businesses this week
A number of local businesses are set to remain closed for the remainder of this financial year, following the Prime Minister’s announcement earlier this week about the roadmap out of lockdown.
As a result, Bedford Borough Council is able to automatically pay £2.7million in business support grant to these businesses. These payments are expected to be in business bank accounts early this week.

New local testing site opened in Flitwick
A new test centre for people with COVID-19 symptoms has opened at Steppingley Road, Flitwick.
It is based on the former leisure centre car park. Testing at the centre began today (Friday, 26 February), with appointments available each day, the site is open 8am – 8pm, 7 days a week.

New business grant scheme approved by Central Bedfordshire Council
Struggling businesses will be able to access further grants following approval of the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG2) and the Local Restrictions Support Grant (Open) by Central Bedfordshire Council’s Executive today (23 February 2021).
The two new grants are designed to support more businesses as they struggle during lockdown because of the pandemic

The Prime Minister has announced the government’s roadmap to “cautiously ease” lockdown restrictions in England.
The roadmap outlines four steps for easing restrictions. Before proceeding to the next step, the government will examine the data to assess the impact of previous steps.

Increased support for Bedford Borough residents that need to self-isolate
Bedford Borough Council is making the Test and Trace Support Payment available to more people and has increased the Support Payment to £700. The Council said the payment will cover the earnings of someone working full time on the Living Wage.

Health and social care staff from across Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) are encouraged to get their COVID-19 vaccinations as soon as possible.
Self-referral is now an option for health and care staff working in BLMK in the below categories to attend Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH) to be vaccinated.

Bedford GP jabbers due to move to cohort 6 next week but those in cohorts 1-5 can still book their vaccine
GP jabbing teams in Bedford are ready to move on to cohort six of the nine highest COVID-19 risk groups from next week, a meeting heard.
Teams running the local vaccination sites in the borough have been vaccinating at the rate of more than 1,000 people a day – but anyone who has missed out so far in cohorts 1-5 can still get their vaccination.

Free rapid COVID-19 testing available for workers in customer-facing roles
Central Bedfordshire Council, in partnership with the Department of Health and Social Care, has launched a community testing initiative.
The rapid testing is available to anyone who lives or works in Central Bedfordshire who are unable to work from home and are in a customer facing role.

Freemasons invited to volunteer for vaccination drive
The Freemasons are encouraging its 200,000 members to roll up their sleeves and volunteer to help vaccinate the population.
To help protect all UK citizens during this difficult time, the Freemasons have also offered their lodges to administer the vital jabs and many buildings are being used as Covid-19 vaccination centres.

‘Nearly 9,000 health and social care staff yet to have their covid jabs’ in Beds, Luton and MK region
Some 8,900 health and social care staff across the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) region are set to receive letters urging them to take their COVID vaccines, a meeting heard.
And the BLMK partnership board, which brings together council and health service leaders, was also told that people in most vulnerable cohorts 1-4 could also be written to within days to overcome stubborn levels of “vaccine hesitancy”.
