Local supermarkets support campaign to get shoppers to cover up
Supermarkets across the region are supporting a campaign to stop the spread of coronavirus by reminding shoppers they have to wear a face covering while in the store.
From today (24 July 2020) it is compulsory for people to wear a face covering in all shops in England, with those failing to comply risking a £100 fine.
Only children under the age of 11 and people for whom wearing a face mask could be harmful to their health will be exempt.

Bedford Borough Council encourages people to wear face coverings where social distancing is difficult
Bedford Borough Council is encouraging people to wear face coverings in shops, supermarkets and other situations where maintaining two metres social distancing may be difficult, if they can.
This is ahead of Friday 24 July, when face coverings are to become mandatory in supermarkets and shops.

Bedfordshire residents being urged to choose a “reusable mask”
Plastic Free Bedford and local Green Party councillors are encouraging residents to consider the environment when choosing a face covering to wear.
The call comes as new guidelines mean that from 24 July 2020 face coverings will be compulsory for shop customers.
The group said that the problem with single-use masks is that they are most often made from non-biodegradable and non-recyclable materials. Adding that these are harmful to the environment and add to the existing problem of single-use plastics and littering.
