Emergency Support Bags made available for those fleeing Domestic Abuse

The Bedfordshire Police Partnership Trust (BPPT) has been awarded £14,370 by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to help support individuals fleeing Domestic Abuse.

The BPPT will use the funding to create Emergency Support Bags which will provide help for those in need of support after fleeing violence, which will include sim cards to make calls, clothing, food vouchers and a wifi-enabled tablet to access 24hr support from partners.

Bedfordshire Police and Crime Panel: Commissioner’s complaint response

Bedfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Kathryn Holloway says she “represents exceptional value for money” for local council taxpayers, after allegations were made in an email sent to the county’s police and crime panel.
She described herself as “beyond disappointed” with some of the claims surrounding award ceremonies and special events arranged by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC).

Bedfordshire PCC wins £3m in second Special Grant

Bedfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Kathryn Holloway, has won a second unique Special Grant from the Home Office to fight gang, gun and knife crime and fill a hole in the cash-strapped force’s finances.

Commissioner Holloway persuaded the Government that the rules for Special Grants in policing needed to be changed. The previous criteria meant that grants only covered spending in the service that lay outside ‘business as usual’ on a single day.

From this change, PCC Holloway received her first Special Grant last year of £4.571m. This was to cover the unprecedented costs of fighting gang, gun and knife crime in the county over a three year period. She has now been awarded a further £3m for the Force to also assist with these costs in 2020-21.

Bedfordshire’s PCC to stand down at the end of her term

Bedfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Kathryn Holloway, has announced that she is to step aside as the PCC for the county after four years in the role.

The PCC said: “I think it’s always a good idea to quit while you’re ahead and I’m more proud of what’s been achieved on behalf on Bedfordshire Police, which deserved someone to fight its corner and to do so with the gloves off, than of anything I’ve ever done in the workplace in 37 years.”
