Bedford Borough Council reminds residents to control their dogs

Bedford Borough Council is reminding dog owners that it is against the law for dogs to be dangerously out of control anywhere, including both public and private land.
A dog may be considered dangerously out of control if it injures a person, another animal or causes someone fear or apprehension that they may be injured.

Following public consultation, Bedford Borough Council has approved a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to tackle street drinking and related anti-social behaviour in the area of Bedford town centre.
This PSPO is set to come into force from today (16 December 2020) and is set to remain in place initially for three years .
This PSPO would prohibit people consuming alcohol or having an open container of alcohol in the defined area, to prevent anti-social behaviour.

Central Bedfordshire Council’s Executive yesterday (5 August 2020), agreed to keep the existing rules as it renewed Public Space Protection Orders (PSPO) in relation to dogs, for the next three years.
A blanket rule requiring dogs to be on leads in any open space with a marked sports pitch has been retained and renewed.
The order also includes dogs being prohibited from fenced play and games areas and parts of the council’s country parks. Dogs will also still need to be on a lead in cemeteries, picnic areas and A and B roads as well as on public footpaths.
