Additional services on Thameslink Bedford – St Pancras Line
From 10 December, Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) will be adding 19 weekday services between Bedford and St Pancras (total in both directions). Of these, two are in the peaks; of the 17 off-peak services, five are night services (that is, they depart from or arrive at Bedford after midnight).
In addition, two trains will be lengthened from eight to 12 carriages.
From 7 January there will be a further 11 additional off-peak services (five from Bedford, three of which are night services; and six to Bedford, five of which are night services). This will bring the total number of weekday services to 98 from Bedford and 109 to Bedford.
Patrick Verwer, chief executive officer of GTR, said:
“We have learnt the lessons of the May timetable change, taking the full three months to plan change and improve travel advice to passengers. The winter timetable also gives passengers more options to travel – particularly for off-peak journeys.”
The new timetable can be found here:
But engineering works are also planned
Passengers are advised to check before they travel until the end of the holiday period, on 7 January, due to timetable revisions to allow for engineering works and a bedding in period for the new services.
Network Rail will be carrying out essential work at this time at London Victoria and Kentish Town.
Network Rail’s Route Managing Director for the South East Route, John Halsall, said:
“December is traditionally a busy month on the railways and there will be planned weekend engineering works, so we advise passengers to check before they travel from 10 December and between Christmas and New Year.”
Passengers can find out more about the engineering work and the new services in advance. They should check before they travel at www.nationalrail.co.uk/christmas or download the National Rail app for live departure updates and timetable information.
