Events inspired by Round and Round the Garden – A Celebration of Horticulture in Art

The Higgins Bedford is hosting garden-themed events and activities this summer, inspired by the current exhibition Round and Round the Garden – A Celebration of Horticulture in Art.

Explore the Castle Gardens in a free tour on the 3rd July, 25th July and 7th September at 11:15am or the 18th August at 2:15pm. Discover more about the volunteer-led project to rejuvenate the gardens and grounds.

Support from the SDC Community Fund has provided the materials and tools for the project, but donations are welcome to aid in transforming the gardens.

Join Professor of History of Art at Oxford Brookes University, Christiana Payne, for a free lunchtime lecture of the Round and Round the Garden exhibition, on the 19th June from 12pm to 1pm. This lecture is sponsored by Oxford Brookes University.

Enjoy an afternoon of free garden themed activities for families on 23rd June, including a seed bomb workshop with Jane Perrone. Entry for this event is free and runs from 2pm until 5pm.

Experts are on hand to answer all things gardening in an informal gardener’s question time with Jane Perrone, Kathy and Simon Brown. Your Garden Questions Answered is free for all to enjoy on 30th June from 2:30pm to 3:30pm.

Join Keeper of Fine and Decorative Art, Victoria Partridge, for a lunchtime lecture on 4th July from 12pm to 12:30pm and explore Edward Bawden’s favourite gardens. Entry for this lecture will cost £3 per person with concessions available at £2.50

“Gardens have always been an inspiration for artists, and Round and Round the Garden is such a fantastic exhibition for inspiring all of us to look at our own gardens in a new light.

“These activities are a great chance to explore this exhibition in a very practical way, and a great chance to pick up some tips for your own gardening adventures.”
