Reduced services on several Thameslink routes over the Bank Holiday weekend

Network Rail is urging passengers who must travel on the Midland Main Line this Bank Holiday weekend to check before travelling. This is due to work to upgrade the track between Kentish Town and Radlett.

Between Saturday, 23 and Tuesday, 26 May 2020, Network Rail engineers will work to replace a junction on the route, as well as renewing 300 metres of track.

To allow the work to take place safely, there will be changes to services for East Midlands Railway and Thameslink customers with diversionary routes and bus replacement services in place

Network Rail issues warning as more than 1,000 trespass incidents recorded during COVID-19 lockdown

Network Rail has released figures that reveal trespassers disrupted vital passenger and freight services 1,0241 times during the first month of the Government’s COVID-19 lockdown.

This an average of 34 incidents a day.

It added that people relying on the railway to get to work and essential supplies to hospitals and supermarkets were hit with more than 380 hours of delay.

Network Rail said that trespassing is illegal, extremely dangerous and can have fatal or life changing consequences.

Network Rail makes progress on Bedfordshire bridge upgrade

Network Rail has opened the footpath on the south side of the bridge for pedestrians, as well as temporarily opening half of one carriageway to cyclists.

Bromham Road is expected to remain closed to motorists until Summer 2020 with a signposted diversionary route in place

This means that people can access the new bridge when they are out exercising, whilst following Government guidelines and staying at least two metres apart.

Local authorities urged to make space around schools

Living Streets, the UK walking charity behind the biggest walk to school campaign, has written to local authorities urging them to take urgent action to improve the walk to school.

It has suggested that councils use some of the emergency active travel fund to implement ‘School Streets’. These will ban vehicles from school gates during peak drop off and collection times.

​London Northwestern Railway: Only use the train for essential journeys

London Northwestern Railway is urging passengers to only use the train for essential journeys. This comes ahead of a new timetable coming into effect on 18 May 2020. The timetable includes an hourly rail replacement bus on Marston Vale Line.

Due to social distancing advice train capacity will remain limited. The operator is asking its customers to only travel by train if they have no other option.
