Highways England is working to convert the M1 from J13 to J16 to an All-Lane Running (ALR) smart motorway. In its latest update, it said that it has begun to remove the temporary vehicle barrier between junction 13 and junction 14.

Once removed, lane 1 (the left-hand lane) will still be closed to vehicles by traffic cones. These cones will stay in place until the re-surfacing of the carriageway and the lane markings for the new motorway layout (carriageway realignment) is completed.
