‘Walk With Tom’ fundraising challenge

Children and team members at Marston Day Nursery, in Marston Moretaine, have been putting their best foot forward to take part in a fundraising initiative set up by fellow village resident, Sir Captain Tom Moore.

The Nursery set the challenge of collectively walking 20 miles (in a nod to 2020) in order to raise money and spread a little joy this Christmas.

Activities included walking in the Nursery garden, an obstacle course, and trips around the local Forest of Marston Vale and Stewartby Lake for the older children.

Parents and families of the Nursery rallied round to raise a current total of £255, well over the original target of £150 set. Nursery Manager Clare Eggelton said:

“We’re so proud of the children for taking part in this activity. The pre-schoolers managed to walk the whole length of Stewartby Lake, which is no mean feat for their age, and they were able to spot local wildlife including squirrels and a heron.

“It’s been a wonderful opportunity to support fellow resident Captain Tom in his mission to keep on walking. Captain Tom and his story is a regular topic of conversation within Nursery, and we recently received a lovely card from him to thank the children for sharing pictures and drawings.

“It’s a relationship we long to maintain.”

Monies raised will go to the Captain Tom Foundation, helping charities including Mind, The Royal British Legion, Helen and Douglas House and Willen Hospice.
