New business grant scheme approved by Central Bedfordshire Council

Struggling businesses will be able to access further grants following approval of the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG2) and the Local Restrictions Support Grant (Open) by Central Bedfordshire Council’s Executive today (23 February 2021).
The two new grants are designed to support more businesses as they struggle during lockdown because of the pandemic

The Prime Minister has announced the government’s roadmap to “cautiously ease” lockdown restrictions in England.
The roadmap outlines four steps for easing restrictions. Before proceeding to the next step, the government will examine the data to assess the impact of previous steps.

Research from Sport England into the impact of the pandemic on physical activity has revealed certain groups of people – specifically those in lower socio-economic groups; Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities; Disabled people and people with long-term health conditions – are being disproportionately affected.

Bedford Borough Council is automatically paying £6.5million to businesses that have had to close during lockdown.
These grants are to support businesses with their premises costs. They are available for businesses that are ratepayers or have other mortgage or rent costs for their business premises and are required to close.
These grants are set and funded by the Government at a national level and administered by the local council.

Parks and play areas will be remaining open throughout this period of lockdown so that individuals and households can get their daily exercise and enjoy nature in our beautiful local parks.
Bedford Borough Council is reminding everyone to keep their distance from others when taking their exercise, wash and sanitise their hands regularly. Particularly before/after touching any play equipment, and not to gather in groups.

The Prime Minister has announced tougher restrictions for large parts of South East England, including Bedfordshire, with a new Tier 4: ‘Stay at Home’ alert level.
The decision follows a rapid rise in infections attributed to the rapid spread of a new variant of COVID-19.

Bedford Borough Council’s Environmental Health team has served eleven prohibition notices and issued two fines to businesses that have stayed open illegally during this period of national restrictions.
The Council’s Environmental Health team, alongside the COVID marshals, have undertaken 110 monitoring visits to local businesses after reports that they were operating illegally.
These businesses have ranged from leisure facilities to licensed premises such as pubs, to car washes.

With COVID-19 cases rising rapidly across the country, the Government is calling on people to stay at home to protect the NHS, and save lives.
The best way to slow the spread of infection is to reduce our day-to-day contact with others.

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement of a nationwide lockdown in England, Bedford Borough Council is reminding everyone of the support and advice available to look after your mind and body.
In April, the council created a webpage offering advice to Bedford Borough residents on how to look after themselves whilst at home during the coronavirus outbreak and beyond.
With regular updates, the site offers advice and signposting to help residents stay healthy in what continues to be an extremely difficult and uncertain year.
